This year's Week of Worship’s theme was “Uncomfortable” and the five speakers were: Maddie Kohltfarber, Anna Chang, Genesis Kelly, Gabby Mendoza, and JV Wongkaren, who represent the senior class of 2024.
Day One:
On the first day of Week of Worship (WOW), Genesis, JV, and Jaren sang the opening worship. Maddie’s sermon was about how she visited the Grand Canyon and trusted her dad when looking over the canyon. This can relate to our relationship with God and how we should trust in Him even when it seems difficult at times. Maddie also shared two misconceptions we have of God:
Sometimes it seems as if God doesn’t hear us.
I am not good enough to approach God.
Renewing our faith and having daily trust in Him will give us a better relationship with our God.
Day 2:
On the second day of WOW, Anna started her sermon with the definition of backslide: “to relapse in bad habits, sinful behavior, or undesirable behaviors.” Anna shared how relying on God, a community, and keeping spiritual friends can prevent backsliding. Repenting to God is a lifestyle and God will be waiting for us with open arms.
Day 3:
On the third day, Meghan, Carrissa, and Leily opened worship and introduced Genesis. Her sermon was about the role that the devil plays in our lives and how it’s difficult to see when he’s trying to infringe on our lives. However, if we allow God into our lives and invite Him into our daily routines, we can overcome anything because he cares about us.
Day 4:
Day Four started with Elah Hebia, Mia Lopez, and Isa Moralde opening worship for us. Gabby Mendoza then began her sermon by starting off with a personal story of moving from North to South Mexico. During this trip, Gabby and her family dealt with many difficulties, but when she was afraid, God gave her clarity. Prayers can impact our lives in a variety of ways and God will always answer us.
Day 5:
On the last day of WOW, JV, Genesis, and Joshua sang the last opening prayer. This was followed by JV’s sermon discussing how it’s easy to start new things but it’s also tough to finish them. If people have a lack of purpose in their lives, it becomes easier to throw their lives away. One piece of advice JV shared was to practice purpose and to stay consistent. It is also important to remember that God has our future planned and He will love us for eternity.
