The 2024 Freshmen and Sophomore dinner was a memorable night for LLA students. La Ratatouille En Paris was the theme of the event, which was decided by the ‘27 and ‘26 class officers. The dinner occurred on Monday, February 12. It was held at the Wong Kerlee International Conference Center right here in Loma Linda.
Officers and sponsors planned immensely for this event. Planning committees were formed in order for the night to be a success. Through organized efforts, the freshmen and sophomore officers designed a Ratatouille-themed invitation which featured a picture of Remi in front of the Eiffel Tower.
On the day of the dinner, both officers and sponsors arrived early to decorate the space. The theme was incorporated creatively through the way the stage, tables, and other add-ons were setup. The stage had a night sky backdrop with an outline of Remi on the moon. TIE students created a gold mock Eiffel Tower for the stage as well. Tables were covered in gingham cloths and various centerpieces involved the Ratatouille theme. There was also a setup to take photos among a cafe-esque backdrop.
When students finally arrived, they were greeted outside by officers and stopped for pictures. Entertainment involved singing and instrumental performances done by various sophomores: Rain Pineda, Hezekial Naibaho, Kevin Henry, Landon Samples, Ancel Magnaye, and Zaimar Alzola. An amusing magic show was also performed by River Johnson (‘26). As the night progressed, students played a puzzle game where they had to solve the mystery as to where Remi had disappeared, as well as a bingo game with themed squares. Another activity was inspired by the Paris Padlocks of Love. As for the dinner itself, salad and pasta were served.
Overall, the freshmen and sophomore dinner was an enjoyable time for LLA students who came. Fun times were had, especially amongst freshmen experiencing their first dinner ever, but also amongst sophomores experiencing their second.
It is important to note that this event was possible only through the dedication of class officers and sponsors. President of ‘26, Emily Chun, reflected that “It seemed like it was not that long ago when I was a freshman, too, and that really got put into perspective when I had to work with underclassmen. All the officers worked so hard to make our dinner amazing.”
